Google Launches Climate Tech Collaboration in India to Accelerate Sustainable AI Innovation
At the India AI Summit, Google announced a major climate-focused initiative in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Government of India. The partnership aims to strengthen India’s climate technology ecosystem while aligning the country’s AI ambitions with sustainable development goals.
As part of this collaboration, Google has launched the Google Center for Climate Technology on Manthan, the PSA’s flagship platform supporting India’s research and development ecosystem.

A National Catalyst for Climate Innovation
The Google Center for Climate Technology is designed to accelerate decarbonization efforts and advance deep-tech research in India. The initiative will provide researchers and innovators with access to Google’s sustainability-focused AI models and APIs while supporting talent development pipelines.
By enabling scalable research and promoting cross-sector collaboration, the Center aims to foster AI-driven solutions to environmental challenges.
Google is initially inviting research and innovation proposals across three critical areas where AI can drive measurable impact:
Building a Green Workforce
Supporting the next generation of India’s workforce with technical skills required for the climate-tech transition.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Encouraging research into sourcing and deploying sustainable aviation fuel to reduce emissions in the aviation sector.
Low-Carbon Construction
Helping researchers evaluate and promote materials that reduce the carbon footprint of India’s rapid urban expansion.
Selected applicants will receive support to develop AI-powered, data-driven solutions addressing environmental challenges both in India and globally.
Sustainability at the Core of AI Growth
Google emphasized that India’s leadership in AI must go hand-in-hand with sustainable growth. The company highlighted its investments in the AI Hub and partnerships that are adding 336 MW of clean energy to India’s grid.
Additionally, Google’s foundational agricultural AI models are being used to strengthen resilience in the farming ecosystem amid climate shifts.
The collaboration underscores a broader vision: ensuring that India’s AI revolution contributes to long-term sustainability rather than increasing environmental strain.
Strengthening India’s AI and Climate Ecosystem
With the launch of the Google Center for Climate Technology, Google and the PSA aim to position India as a global hub for sustainable AI research. The initiative brings together AI innovation, environmental responsibility, and policy-level collaboration under a unified platform.
As climate technology becomes increasingly critical worldwide, this partnership could play a significant role in shaping how AI contributes to decarbonization and sustainable infrastructure development in India.
