In a step that could transform how college students in India interact with AI and digital learning tools, Google has revealed that it will provide its premium AI Pro plan — valued at ₹19,500 per year — completely free of charge to eligible students nationwide.
This initiative offers eligible students 12 months of free access to Google’s advanced AI toolkit, which includes the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, powerful research assistants, video creation tools, and 2TB of Google Cloud storage across Gmail, Drive, and Photos. The offer is available until September 15, 2025, for students aged 18 and above who are enrolled in a recognized college or university in India.
Students will gain access to Google’s most advanced generative AI features. The plan includes Gemini Live for real-time, voice-based interactions with the model; NotebookLM, a research assistant that summarizes documents and creates citations; Deep Research, which connects Gemini with Google’s search capabilities; and Veo, an advanced tool for creating short-form videos from text prompts or storyboards.
To redeem the offer, students need to verify their eligibility through the SheerID platform, a global verification service. It’s important to note that the process must be completed using a personal Gmail account, not a college or university email ID.
In a blog post, Google shared insights from a recent Google-Kantar report, which found that 75% of Indians want a daily partner to help them “grow and excel.” The study also revealed that 95% of Indian students who use Gemini feel more confident in their daily lives.
While a payment method is needed to start the trial, Google has assured users that they will receive reminders well before the free period ends, giving them the option to cancel in time if they decide not to continue.
This initiative is part of Google’s wider strategy to promote AI literacy and build skills at the grassroots level in one of its fastest-growing markets.
